Balancing is the black sheep of competitive bidding. Most
of the time, your opponents bid something and you join right into the bidding.
Balancing is something you do as an afterthought. The opponents bid and
bid and bid and finally they stop bidding. You have the choice of passing
or restarting the bidding. Since balancing is usually done when you have
a poor hand, it is not an exciting area of bidding. Still, it is an important
area. A lot is at stake when you are deciding whether to balance or pass.
