These are two special items. When I started to play bridge, I found a dismal selection of reading materials. If I wanted to read about endplays, I could find a few pages here and another page there. Finding an adequate discussion of endplays was almost impossible. The reason for this is that when someone writes a bridge book, there are just too many topics to cover to give any one of them adequate space. The two sets of Topics on Bridge are intended to fill a need. Certain topics deserve a lot of press and now they are getting it. If you want to read about how to respond to a Stayman bid, go get a book on bidding. If you want to learn about bridge, try the Topics series. Many of the topics are not covered anywhere in bridge literature. Penalty doubles? Most bidding books refer to them, but they do not discuss what it takes to make one. Books Sixteen and Seventeen show you when to make a penalty double. Reverses? Signals? The Rule of Seven? Each of these topics in covered in a small book averaging 25 pages and there are fifteen books per set. There is an incredible amount of information in these two sets.
